Exempting citizens’ energy projects from subsidy auctions for green power fed into the grid – laid out in the Renewable Energy Act reform – could ensure the continued presence of these small decentralised companies and thus the population’s support for the country’s energy transition, according to Andreas Wieg of the German cooperatives association , writes Rebecca Harvey for . Acceptance by communities could be created by financial incentives: “If you were getting 200 euros a year for a wind turbine in your back yard, would you have a problem with that? Possibly not,” said Wieg.
