Energy company E.ON has installed Germany’s first smart meter in a household, the company says in an e-mailed press statement. The introduction of smart meters in the country was several months behind schedule as licensing of the devices’ gateways took authorities much longer than expected due to security concerns. “With intelligent meters, our customers will gain a lot of comfort and additionally save a lot of money,” said E.ON Germany CEO Victoria Ossadnik. Ossadnik added that the smart meters will allow for a better integration of renewable energy sources in the German energy system.
