BMW, Daimler to invest more than 1 bln euros in joint mobility services

German luxury carmakers BMW and Daimler have unveiled a combined ride-hailing, parking, and electric car charging business, in a bid to counter new rivals like Google and Uber. they planned to create 1,000 new jobs and have earmarked more than one billion euros to expand the merger of Daimler’s Car2Go and BMW’s DriveNow. BMW CEO Harald Krüger said the companies’ clear vision was “a single mobility service portfolio with an all-electric, self-driving fleet of vehicles that charge and park autonomously and interconnect with the other modes of transport.” The companies said their existing services already have roughly 60 million customers worldwide.
