If like me you are sick and tired of having to wear espadrilles in the summer, well than I have some good news, you don’t have to.
Say hello to the new king of summer shoes the ‘del Rio London’.
Meeting Linda del Rio the creative director behind ‘del Rio London’ and I was struck by how passionate she was about her brand. Linda mentioned that she first came across the inspiration behind the ‘del Rio’ in a Spanish museum, where she came across a slipper that was worn by the kings of Spain dating back to the first century. She used that slipper and turned it to something high-end and luxurious and of course perfect for the 21st century.
Handmade in the south of Spain by skilled shoemakers. The soles of the shoes are made of recycled truck tyres. Linda believes in using only the best of materials for the del Rio London, which is evident in the shoes she showed me. These included pony hair, embossed, printed leathers, velvet, linen and farmed pearl stingray. It’s not surprising that it can take up to two days just to make a pair of these chic sandals.
Linda has even created a limited edition Merve Hasman print. The Turkish photographer even shot del Rio London SS13 campaign
Since launching in 2010, del Rio London has come a long way; WWD said that del Rio was one of the six hot emerging designers of 2011. With every shoe sold del Rio London plants a tree in Uganda. But what does the future hold? Will there be a pop up store, bags and other accessories added to the brand? One thing is for sure with a passionate designer like Linda pulling all the strings del Rio London can only go from strength to strength.
I of course will never be wearing espadrilles ever again. It’s all about the del Rio London. So while I enjoy my del Rio shoes here is a sneak preview of the SS14 collection-featuring vintage Hermes fabrics.
